How USATestprep Developed Its Tennessee EOC/Gateway Review

End-of-Course

End-of-Course Assessment Program
Beginning with the 2008-2009 school year, students taking US History and English I are required to take Operational End of Course Assessments in US History and English I. The tests are given three times a year and students may retake tests if they do not pass on their first attempt. The content of these tests is determined by the Department of Education. The content of these tests is based on material students should be exposed to by the end of each course.

Gateway Assessment Program
Since 2001, all High School students entering ninth grade in the state of Tennessee are required by the Department of Education (DOE) to take and pass comprehensive multiple choice tests in Science, Mathematics, and Language Arts to receive a High School Graduation Diploma. These tests are called the Gateway Tests and are given after students have taken Algebra I, English II and Biology I as the End-of-Course Tests for these subjects. The tests are given three times a year and students may retake tests if they do not pass on their first attempt. The content of these tests is determined by the Department of Education. All tests consist of 62 multiple-choice questions and measure both content knowledge and critical thinking skills. Appropriate modifications are ensured for students with special needs.
