Alabama High School Graduation Exam (AHSGE)

Since 2001, all High School students in the state of Alabama are required by the Department of Education (DOE) to take and pass comprehensive multiple choice tests in Science, Social Studies, Mathematics, and Reading/Language to earn Advanced Academic Endorsement, Advanced Career and Technical Endorsement, Career and Technical Endorsement or No Endorsement. Students who pass three of five sections of the AHSGE may earn a credit-based endorsement. Special Education students may receive an occupational diploma without passing the tests. The tests are typically given in the Spring of a student’s Junior year. Students have up to six opportunities to pass these tests. The content of these tests was chosen by Development Committees from the Pathways for Learning to ensure a full coverage of fundamental concepts. The tests emphasize coursework, logic and problem solving. The exam is designed to meet real world challenges and ensure students are prepared for the ever-changing marketplace.
